Their English teacher supplied a word list, and the class uses Cambridge books at Pre A1 Starters level. I wanted to make offline practice a little more inviting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As a software developer, I used AI to help create a printable workbook that my child could work through with a pencil, one activity at a time. I\u2019m sharing it here for other families looking for English spelling activities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What\u2019s inside the workbook?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The workbook has&nbsp;<strong>40 pages<\/strong>, including:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>19 crossword puzzles<\/strong>\u00a0with short English clues and supporting word banks.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>19 word searches<\/strong>\u00a0with words running across or down.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>380 vocabulary entries<\/strong>, including individual words and everyday phrases.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Four practice stages<\/strong>\u00a0to organise the activities into manageable sections.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>A progress tracker<\/strong>\u00a0where children can feel how they are progressing.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The vocabulary includes words such as&nbsp;<em>bird<\/em>,&nbsp;<em>banana<\/em>, and&nbsp;<em>school<\/em>, alongside phrases such as&nbsp;<em>living room<\/em>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<em>take a photo<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Who is it for?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The workbook is intended for children learning English as a foreign language, with vocabulary drawn from the&nbsp;<strong>Pre A1 Starters wordlist<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Children who are still beginning to read English may need an adult\u2019s help with the crossword clues. You can read a clue together, discuss its meaning, and then let your child try spelling the answer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If your child is preparing for a school spelling bee, compare the workbook vocabulary with the teacher\u2019s list. Choose A5 if you would like a compact booklet to keep in a bag or take along on a journey.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How to print the A5 booklet<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The A5 PDF is already arranged for booklet printing. It contains 20 landscape A4 PDF pages, which make a&nbsp;<strong>40-page A5 booklet using 10 sheets of paper<\/strong>&nbsp;when printed double-sided.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol start=\"1\" class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Open the A5 PDF and select\u00a0<strong>A4 paper<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Choose\u00a0<strong>landscape orientation<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Enable\u00a0<strong>double-sided printing<\/strong>\u00a0and select\u00a0<strong>\u201cflip on the short edge.\u201d<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Select\u00a0<strong>one PDF page per printed side<\/strong>. Do not apply an additional \u201cbooklet\u201d or \u201cmultiple pages per sheet\u201d setting.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Print the first two PDF pages as a test to check that both sides are the right way up.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Print the complete file, keep the sheets in order, and fold the stack in half.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Staple along the centre fold to hold the booklet together.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The page order may look unusual on screen. That is intentional: the pages fall into reading order after printing and folding.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How to print the A4 workbook<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Open the A4 PDF and select&nbsp;<strong>A4 paper, portrait orientation, and one PDF page per printed side<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You can print it single-sided or double-sided. For double-sided printing, select&nbsp;<strong>\u201cflip on the long edge.\u201d<\/strong>&nbsp;Print the whole workbook or just the activities you want to use.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I hope these activities make spelling practice more enjoyable for your family.
